First Year Course Preferencing

It’s time to let us know what courses you want to take this fall! Starting today, until June 6, you can indicate your preferences through your to-do list in Porches. Keep in mind that you are just submitting your preferences; your assistant dean will make sure you’ve chosen the correct courses before your schedule is finalized later this summer. They will make any changes due to AP, IB, CLEP, or transfer credit(s) that we receive over the summer.

You’ll also see the option to select your Integrated Learning Living Community (ILLC). Keep in mind, a mutual roommate request will override any ILLC request you submit. This means your request is not guaranteed unless both roommates select the same ILLC. If you have questions on ILLCs, contact: mkeanesexton1@udayton.edu

Students in certain programs, including: FIRST and Business Special Enrollment will not see the course preference option, as their schedules are created by the Academic Dean’s office.

To the person asking about languages: take Latin! I was in the same boat and started out in Italian, but Latin was much more interesting.
Hi I'm an incoming freshman and I'm unsure what language I should take. I took Spanish for two years and latin for two years in high school and I'm not great at either. How long are you required to take a language and once you fill out your language questionnaire is there a way to change it?
Anonymous

Language requirements vary by department. Students working towards bachelor of art degrees or in International Business are required to achieve a certain level of proficiency in a language either by testing out with the placement exam, or by taking language courses. Outside of those majors, we don’t require students to take languages, but it is encouraged.

Regarding which language to take, we’d recommend whichever one you feel most comfortable with, or have taken most recently. But, if you can’t decide which to take, you can complete the language questionnaire for multiple languages.

Move-out day. Graduation weekend. These are bitter sweet moments here at the University of Dayton. But it also means we’re just 112 days away from MOVE-IN day for the 2,100+ Flyers in the class of 2018!

So the year is almost over! and yeah, yeah, sois the basketball team’s season. Some people that don’t go to UD are probably thinking: wow, the basketball team brought so much pride to that school! Not to say that they didn’t, but we had a lot of pride waaay before March Madness ever hit. I…

Hi! I have submitted 3 photos for the selfie scholarship but only one of them is posted on the website to claim them. The other two pictures are on both twitter and instagram, have the #dayton2018, and I don't have any privacy settings. Is there anything I can do to claim the other photos?

If they aren’t showing up in the gallery on the website, they were not actually approved. Please send us the direct links to the posts along with your username.

Hi! I have received a link to claim my instagram and it had verified my account but, when I tried to type in my name and birthday, it wouldn't let me press continue. Is there anything I can do?
Anonymous

Try caliming it directly from the gallery rather than from the link we sent back to you at this point. If not, send us the direct links to the post and give us your username so that we can be sure they are considered.

I submitted two Instagram pictures on Saturday using the hashtag but I didn't receive the link to claim my pictures and I totally forgot about that step. Is it too late to do that?
Anonymous

If you received the links it is not too late to claim them at this stage because we have not yet selected or tried to contact our winners.

Scholarship Contest - Week 5 - Academic and Athletic Excellence (Sweet 16 Edition)

At the University of Dayton, we take pride in achieving academic excellence on and off the court. Our student-athletes across all sports are regularly among the nation’s top academic performers. For instance, if academic success determined the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship winners this year, Inside Higher Ed says the Dayton Flyers women’s basketball team would reach the Final Four, while the men’s basketball team would reach the Sweet 16, losing to the eventual academic national champions, Kansas. On the court, our women’s team earned their fifth consecutive NCAA tournament berth in 2014, achieving their highest ever seed. Later this week our men’s team is headed to the Sweet 16 in Memphis, Tennessee after winning their first two tournament games! In honor of these achievements by our student-athletes, use this week’s final post to show us how you have demonstrated academic and/or athletic excellence in high school!

Scholarship Contest - Week 4 - Marianist, Catholic Education

FAITH. SERVICE. COMMUNITY. In three simple words, that’s what the Marianists are all about. You are not alone at the University of Dayton. You are part of a community. As a Catholic, Marianist university, we are deeply committed to the common good. We educate for service, justice and peace. We readily adapt and change with the times. We build communities of faith and educate in what we call a “family spirit.” We integrate knowledge. We strive for truth. We link our work in the classroom to our lives in the world. We develop critical minds and compassionate hearts. We provide an integral, high-quality education on a campus that’s known for its hospitality and inclusiveness of all faiths. In this week’s post, tell us how you can contribute to our mission or why a Catholic education is important to you.
